Northeast Corner (Ft. Bidwell)

The North East Corner (Fort Bidwell)

As seen in:

Huell passes through the tiny town of Fort Bidwell where my Uncle happens to live in our family's historic ranch house in remote Modoc County.  As Huell says "What in the world is up here?".  Here are some photographs from previous family trips to the Northeast Corner of our state.

Although Huell passes through Ft. Bidwell with little fanfare he does pick up Geography Professor Steve Cunha and local couple Carol and Jane to guide him to the NE Corner.  Carol and Jane warn Huell to get out of here before dark to avoid the mountain lions and rattlesnakes.  Side note I had the pleasure of having dinner at our family ranch house with Jane years later.

The Ranch House which was originally designed for a California Senator, Boyd Peterson and was eventually given to my Grandparents as a wedding gift by my Great Grandfather J.P. McAuliffe

The fields are still watered by setting dams to flood alternate pastures.  The pastures are then allowed to grow grass while the cattle are fed in other pastures.  This sort of Gravity Irrigation has been employed for over 100 years at this particular ranch.

Looking northeast towards the path Huell and the others hiked to "near" the NE corner.
